Unhappy News
I know a lot of you have been waiting for the epilogue to Backstage Pass. If you’ve been paying attention, you know that I was waiting for final approval (due to contractual obligations with my publisher–see “competing works clause”) before I could publish it. You also know how much work I put into it–time, effort, my own money. Well, I have some unhappy news…
It might never be available. I don’t know for sure what will happen with it in the future. I do know that I don’t want to jeopardize the publication of the rest of my Sinners books by rebelling and publishing Appetite any way. I can’t go against this decision without possible legal ramifications, so for now, I’m tucking my tail between my legs and retreating. Do I like it? What do you think?
I can’t post bad news without countering it with some potentially good news. I will soon be venturing into the realm of self-publishing with a new band. That will give me the freedom to do whatever I want with my creative work and my characters. These guys won’t be our Sinners, but they’ll be awesome. I promise. As soon as I finish Trey’s book (under contract), we’ll have some fun together designing perfect rock stars for some new books. Some self-published books.
I’m sorry to disappoint you all. I want you to know that my agent did fight for Appetite on my behalf and yours, but sometimes you have to know when to fold and try to see the big picture. The big picture is making sure you get the rest of the Sinners books. I decided that would be more important in the long run.
I hope someday you’ll be able to read Appetite for Seduction. It really is a beautiful celebration of Brian and Myrna’s love.

We love you and all the Sinners we will wait patiently and eagerly for Appetite. Maybe someday….
I am super excited about your new self publishing project! It sounds so fun and a possibly freeing experience for you. Olivia I think if you re-wrote the phone book I’d probably buy it.
Lots of love
We are going to have so much fun with this new series. Especially me. I already have some ideas! *squeeeeee*
I appreciate the efforts you put in on the reader’s behalf and sorry for the struggles you had to face. You are an amazing author and I look forward to whatever you publish. Thank yo for all your hard work and talent.
That’s OK, Olivia. It definitely sucks
but I want the big picture more. I’m almost finished with Backstage Pass and it just makes me want the rest of the guys stories that much more. Maybe after all the books are out they will make the enlightened decision to release the encores. I would really like a release date for Jace’s book. I’m craving his story and would like to know when there is an end in sight…
Hopefully, I’ll get a release date for Jace’s (or whoever’s) book soon after I turn in Trey’s manuscript. So that’s the first thing I have to get done.
Very sad to hear this but I am really looking forward to reading the rest of the Sinners stories. Also very excited to hear you will be creating a new band. Congrats on that!!
Thanks, Sophia! I’m predicting this new band will rock. Hard. Oh wait, I can’t use that title, can I?
Need a new catch phrase…
Things happen for a reason. I say their loss. It would have been a sweet bonus for your fans, and would have brought other Sinner’s groupies on board. I appreciate all that you do. I am looking forward to Jace, Eric and Trey’s books and anything other treats you might have in store for us. This groupie is in it for the long haul. Hugs!!!
Once I get going on this new series, I’ll have LOTS of tasty treats for you. *Olivia gone wild!* I promise not to flash my boobs at you.
Awe, my heart hurts for you. I know you were excited about sharing it with us and we were excited about reading it. Well you know you have a forever fan in me, so keep me in the know with the future band!
Absolutely, Dee. We can never have too many hot rock stars to lust after, imo.
I am disappointed for you (and your fans) but the big picture is definitely important so we can read the rest of the Sinners’ stories. I am also really looking forward to your self-published books and the new band.
I’ve got my priorities all in line now. I’m also looking forward to the new band. I do <3 my Sinners though. Their books will be as awesome as I can make them.
Very sad to hear this but, like everyone else, can’t wait to read about the rest of the band. As for your other upcoming projects…….I eagerly await to read whatever and anything you have or will write. I am a reader for life! You rock!
I’m a very fast writer when I’m inspired. Look out world, I’m inspired!
Well like everyone else, I’m sad to hear about Appetite, however I would rather have the other books in the Sinners series as well. Thanks again for all you do and the hard work you go to for us, allowing us all the extras that you do. I think its safe to say that you have a very loyal following that will back you with all of your future works. Cause I gotta say Olivia, your work is HAWTTTT!
Thanks, Christy. My books will continue to be HAWTTTT. I can’t help myself. Not when noms rock stars are the heroes.
Dang! That’s a bummer.
I like the consolation prize though
I’m feeling pretty good about the consolation prize myself. Very excited about it actually!
Well that totally sucks donkey balls, Olivia! I am so sorry to hear this. After all the work you put into it and it might never see the light of day! SIGH! Sending you hugs!
Thanks for fighting the battle! Great news about possible new band. Can’t wait.
Thanks, Ing. All those postcards I sent you are pretty worthless now, huh? I guess we’ll think of them as collectors items. Had a great time with Sinners week on your blog! The fans loved the interviews.
I’m not liking your publisher very much right now. But like everyone else I agree that I would not want to jeopardize the other Sinners books. I would die if I didn’t get to read Trey’s story
I’m sorry that you don’t get to share Appetite with us after all the effort you put into it. I’m sure it’s awesome. Who knows, maybe someday. Or maybe you get to add it to Jace’s book as bonus material? *crossing fingers*
I’m guessing that a spin-off series with Exodus End is also against the competing works clause?
I love the stuff you write, so I’m totally on board if you decide to create a new band.
I can still do an Exodus End spin-off in the future. It will have to wait until the entire Sinners on Tour series is complete. So you can still look forward to it. Just not in the near future. I have big plans for Dare and Max already. The other two members of the band (Logan and Steve) aren’t clear to me yet.
I’m so so sorry I feel like we’ve lost a friend
But just look at all this wonderful support. It might be years before Appetite sees the light of day, but I’ll keep it tucked safely in a drawer until then. I won’t be bound to this contract for the rest of my life.
Things like this suck, but you’re right, you do have to step back and look at the big picture. I can’t wait for any new work you put out, self published or not, I guarantee that I’ll be ready to read and review it!
I have your agreement to review it in writing here, Marie.
I’m a huge fan and I think you’re an awesome writer and I’ll buy and read anything you write. Good luck writing and publishing your work. So looking forward to the rest of the Sinners. Thanks for all your hard work. Sending hugs your way!!!
Thanks, Bama Girl! I’m ready to plunge right in. Ah, plunge. One of my favoritest of all words.
Aww, hate to hear that. Was needing my Sinner’s fix!! But I will try to be patient and wait for the next rocking bad boy!! Love ya and maybe all the legal mumbo will be fixed soon!!
How bad do you want him, April?
Olivia,
That really sucks, but I agree that the other books are more important. Although Lisa Kleypas put her Hathaway novella on her webpage as a PDF file.
Just a thought…
If I could, I would, JT. We’ll see how things progress over the next couple of months.
That completely sucks!!!! But looking forward to the rest of the Sinners books. We all look forward to everything you write in the future. I hope you will be able to tell the stories of the Exodus End band members, but I also fear the publishers think that would be a conflict too. Any new band you create will be exciting and hawt I’m sure!!! I’m a fan for life!!!!
The more hawt bands, the merrier, I say! Don’t give up on Exodus End, but do be patient. I think you’ll be waiting for a long time. The new bands? Think months, not years.
Hmmm months until some new nom hotties…..that will work until we can shake some Sinner Hawtness from your publishers
Til then, Backstage Pass and Rock Hard become more well worn while we endure fits of withdrawal and cravings…..
I’m definitely unhappy for you on this… but very excited about the self-publishing new band thing! The possibilities are so endless and you’ve got an ever growing fan base to please…
I’m glad I have that positive to cling to, Dana. I was feeling very down and claustrophobic until I found that escape hatch.
Poo and Yay all in one. Totally understand your decision about backing down for now. And I can’t wait to see what you cook up next!
One Brian-archetype-hero coming up for you, Julie.
Woo Hoo!
Maybe your current publisher would allow it to be a short in the back of one of your contracted works.
Whatever happens, I totally look forward to any new stories or series that you’ll bring to us!
I don’t think that’s a possibility, Chris, but it’s a nice idea.
I’M PISSED..thats all.
Your comment totally reminds me of this.
I LOVE TRAPT!!!
That really sucks!!!!! Sorry Olivia, I know you fought as hard as you could! Patiently awaiting the Sinners future books and your new work! Good luck, and stay strong! Maybe one day we can read Appetite for Destruction. You give us amazing work, and I know we all adore you. Heads up, stay true to yourself and all things will work out!
I think things will work out great. I’m surprisingly optimistic. Of course, I’ve had a few days to process it all. I don’t let things keep me down for long.
Bummer…hang tough!
Thanks, Tamara. Minor setback. Pushing forward.
That sucks! Other authors post little epilogues for free on their site, could we get a peek at it that way? LOVE the books, will buy the rest as soon as they come out, however you get them published.
I wish I could, Tracey. Maybe someday.
I give you so much credit for being an author. It stinks when you cannot publish your own words. I will keep reading Sinners anyway!
As for the new series . . . Matt Tuck is a VERY GOOD inspiration for a character!
Oh yes… I found Matt to be very inspiring at the concert last Saturday. VERY inspiring. *drool*
Good for you, Olivia!
I’m about to take the self-pub plunge, myself. I have a lot of manuscripts that break some romance genre rules, and I’m ready to let the readers decide.
I hope you sell BILLIONS!!!!!
Yay, Cheryl!! I hope you sell BILLIONS, too! I’ve been doing some research on the best ways to go about this. Happy to share my insight! Send me an email if you’re interested.
Aww Olivia, this makes me sad. =( I hope we get to see it one day though.
Until then, I look forward to the rest of the Sinners series and your new venture as well. =)
I hope so, too, Coxie. I think things will work out for the best here. I really do. I had a major wake-up call and my eyes are wide open now. I have a new focus and direction. And it just feels “right”. I’m just sorry to disappoint you all.
We could never be disappointed with you, and as it looks like everyone else is behind you 100%. We got ya back
Olivia Be our guide here. If need be we can flood your publisher with emails requesting the story be released. Or alternatively can you negotiate an agreement with them so it can be added to a trade paper back release of Backstage Pass or Rock Hard. You know as an incentive for people to buy the book again in a different format.
let us know if we need to send guiter picks or something along those lines to the publisher (It’s Sourcebooks isn’t it?)as an encouragement to release it
And when does their rights to the story revert back to you? How long do you have to wait?
I won’t be negotiating any agreements, I’ll give you that much. I think it’s best to just wait this out. I do appreciate you wanting to fight for me. It means a lot, but I’d rather focus on something new. Something I have complete control over.
Sorry to hear the sad news Olivia, but yeah, getting the rest of the Sinners’ stories out is a MUST!! You’re right to look at the big picture…and then move on to something that sounds very excitingt! Keep up the good work!
Will do, Lis. And I am very excited about the new prospect!
Boo to the publisher! What a terrible decision. But, I guess it’s true…every dark cloud has silver lining – at least for us readers. More drool-worthy rock stars to pant over? Yes, please!
Olivia, you rock:)
There will be much panting involved. Guaranteed!
I’m sad to hear this Olivia! I know you were excited to share. I love the ChrisS’ idea to put it as a short in one of your other books! Maybe something like that could work out in the future.:) My fingers are crossed!
That would involve another contract clause. No thank you.
I’m super sad for you and me. I hope the new band plans work out.
The new band plans WILL work out, because I will be in complete control. I’m a reliable person. You can trust me. That’s one reason why this situation is so hard for me. I made a promise and had to go back on my word. I don’t like being put in that position.
Oh, nooooo!! Sad to hear this (and pissed too!) I really want to read their honeymoon story. I hope, one day you will finally publish Sinners Encore, Olivia. I really love this band. And yay, for another new rockstar. I can’t wait ^_^
Thanks, Ren. Sinners will never die!
I am so sorry, esp. for you, cause I know you worked really, REALLY hard. But you have to do what you have to do in this case, and no matter what, I’ll buy your books, self-published or not. You will always be an auto-buy for me. I love your writing.
I woke up and checked you blog and saw this and I was like “WTF?! I WANNA READ THAT DAMN BOOK! SHE DIDN’T SIGN THAT CONTRACT IN BLOOD!” But then as you said the big picture. *siggggh* But I’m a life long fan and I can wait patiently for Appetite for Seduction. Even if that means it comes out when I’m 90 years old lol. I’m excited for what the future holds for you, Olivia! So glad to see that you’re keeping your head up! *high five*
I really was looking forward to Appetite, but I respect your decision and think it’s actually for the best. Being self-published will free you up even more creatively – OMG – how much MORE creative can you be???
Appetite sure will see the light of day at some point. And just imagine how many other bands we’re going to meet along the way! I, for one, am looking forward to that journey!
well let me just say that that blows big time! but I look forward to more of your work!
You do what u have to do to preserve the integrity of your art, and the Sinners are SO worth preserving! I adore this series have read both books twice and anxiously await the third. But will that be the end of this series, or when u self publish can you then write the rest of the guys stories? I would hate not to read about Jace and Eric.
I ‘ve been going to concerts for many years starting in my youth, the most recent being the Carolina Rebellion and i must say when i read about the Sinners I hear Avenged Sevenfold play in mu head! I guess to me thats how I imagine the Sinners would sound. Well, and M. Shadows IS pretty hot im his own right!
Keep up the good writing!
How about I send you some money and you send me an ebook version by email. I won’t tell anyone… I swear
But seriously I would’ve loved to read it. If you need a copy editor just to make sure it’s perfect..
Olivia,
Although I am so sad for you, especially since you worked so hard, I completely understand. It IS disappointing-but you have fans that will support you no matter what.
I think the self-publishing idea w/ a new band is EXCELLENT-and I will be there to purchase it. Your imaginative words and brilliance of your stories have made me life-long fan.
Thanks for trying–
Its shocking that publishers really think this kinda thing is ok still. It is a REALLY great series maybe they will be singing another tune with your book series and how they treat you with the success of works that have recently taken off in your genre .. also it pisses me off at them that I wont find out what happens with them.
Hopefully someday you will get it published…. it would be wonderful to read… looking forward to DOuble TIme and the new band with your CONTROL!!! over them
Is there a chance the book is gonna get published somehow? I’m dying to read thissssss…
(
I am just new to these books just finished the first ones and saw on Good Reads that this one was 1.5 and then looked furiously for it through google and found this… awwww fu^&**&^%()### fudge… But I understand and will press on to the next books, can’t wait to start another. Backstage Pass went way too fast! I have found a gem of an author in you… I’m with you all the way. Thank you for the hours of reading enjoyment!
Thats really sad knowing we might not get to read it. The possotive though is that you are an amazing writter so whether you are self published or not we are sure of a good book I can’t wait to see what you come up with. Good luck with your new adventure. p.s I am loving the sinners series, there are gripping and I have lost alot of sleep becaue I can not put them down
As sad as this is for us I am sure that it feels even worse for you. All the hard work, blood, sweat and tears as they say which will have to be tucked away in drawer. I look forward to your future works and I will always have a TOP spot in my heart for our Sinners. Thank you!!! <3
The feeling is really unsettling knowing that we may or may not be able to read Appetite for Seduction. /tear The Backstage Pass is like an open-ended story for me (because it went kind of fast and you know, I haven’t had enough of Master Sinclair just yet /giggles) and I’ve been having these crazy ideas as to what had happened during their honeymoon and I’m already going nuts not knowing what really happened!
I read it in Good Reads (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11226188-appetite-for-seduction) that the expected date of publication of Appetite would be on the year 2016? Not sure if I understood it right but I hope this is not true because the wait is too long I don’t think I could live til that year, lol (pun intended). /cry I hope that by the time you finish the rest of the band members’ stories, Appetite for Seduction would be finally published. Sinners will be the death of me. In a very good way. /nods nods
You are a very promising writer and I definitely have to say that I love each and every one of Sinners band members’ unique and alluring characteristics. I’m really looking forward reading more of your works.
PS: You’re…heaven sent from above. Thank you. Just…thank you for writing those stories. Very entertaining and I learned quite a few things that I could and might put to use in real life. /winks
Major SAD face
That just sucks! However, I am enjoying reading the Sole Regret series …don’t know which one my fave is yet. Close between Gabe and Shade. LOL I hope to one day read Brian and Myrna’s wedding and honeymoon stories, I can only imagine how hot they will be…..(sighs) Good for you for taking the high road and looking out for your fans! Love your work!!
I’m new to your books, having been recommended them on ‘goodreads’. Based on that, I’ve bought them and am looking forward to reading them, although I’m disappointed that ‘Appetite For Seduction’ isn’t available!
Boo Hoo, I hope it will make it someday. I will read it when it does! Keep on writing and I will keep on reading. Loves “Backstage Pass” and look forward to the others.
Is this still possible? I’m seriously addicted to their love story. I will wait for this to happen. Thanks Olivia for creating this wonderful series!! More power!!
