Hottie Hump Day 175 (NSFW-ish)

So I got a FitBit on Black Friday, because I always shop for myself on Black Friday and then scramble the weeks before Christmas to find gifts for those on my list. I’m sure I’m the only one who shops that way.

Anyway, a FitBit tracks your exercise, which is what I expected, but it also tracks your sleep, which is cool in an “I’m a geek” sort of way. Since I’ve been tracking, I notice I get a lot of REM sleep. Like more than average, so of course I had to Google what it means if you REM too much. A) It makes you tired because half the night you’re dreaming about eating watermelon sherbet out of a purple turtle shell in the Andes with a talking horse, which is freaking exhausting B) it means you’re exceptionally creative–I guess so, and C) it makes you depressed. Hmm. Well that’s interesting. Down the Google rabbit hole I went and I find an article in Psychology Today about how the amount of REM sleep you get is directly correlated to your tendency for depression and that the way most antidepressant medications work is by suppressing your REM sleep. Wow, that Google has all the answers. You can even decrease depression by sleep deprivation, because you’ll get less REM by default. More than likely you will also cut a bitch as you replace your depression with extreme anger. Anyway, I’ve apparently been thinking a lot about sleep for the past week, and figured I’d use this hump day to take an informal poll.
